ITEC Registered Therapist's Code of Practice

  1. ITEC professionals shall only offer to treat, clients within their own trained professional competence and shall not practice any therapy or treatment for which they are not properly qualified.
  2. ITEC professionals will not treat any person or give any advice to any person on or relating to treatments for which they do not hold professional indemnity insurance cover.
  3. ITEC professionals shall at all times act in a professional, ethical and honourable manner towards their clients and members of public. Client modesty shall be maintained at all times.
  4. ITEC professionals shall at all times keep entirely confidential between themselves and their clients all matters relating to consultations, treatment, advice and clinical matters other than with the consent of the client or when reporting treatments or clinical findings to a fellow professional or medical advisor.
  5. ITEC professionals shall keep, and maintain in a secure place, clinical records of all treatments and consultations for each client and shall do so under the terms of the current law of their country as regards Data Protection legislation.
  6. ITEC professionals will not promote themselves other than in a responsible and honest manner that does not bring themselves, ITEC, ITEC Professionals or the treatments that they are offering into any form of disrepute. Further they will make no claim for potential success in any treatment that cannot be fully authenticated by ITEC Professionals and or validated research.
  7. Where an ITEC Professional is working under the direction of a medical practitioner, the ITEC Professional will not undertake any treatments or procedures other than those prescribed by the medical practitioner and will always defer to the clinical judgment and direction of the medical practitioner and will not seek to undermine or advise against any treatment prescribed.
  8. Where an ITEC professional is working within any form of hospital she or he will always follow the procedures of the establishment and will at no time undertake treatment or offer to undertake treatment other than under the direction and approval of the medical staff of the establishment. Further they will at no time imply or infer that they are members of staff of the establishment unless that is the case.
  9. Where an ITEC professional believes that a client may have a condition that could require medical treatment or treatment by a therapist in a different discipline she or he must cease there own treatment and recommend that the client contact the appropriate professional for a diagnosis. The ITEC professional should advise the client to seek a consultation with the medical practitioner or other therapist.
  10. The ITEC professional must at all times make her himself aware of the notifiable diseases that are listed for the local area. Where a client presents with any notifiable disease, the ITEC professional must insist that the client contact her or his medical practitioner and record the statement in the client notes.
  11. Children (persons under 16 years of age) may not be treated without the personal or written permission of the child's parent or legal guardian.
  12. ITEC professionals will not when treating a client who has been referred to her or him by another therapist seek to attract that client as their own direct client without the permission of the other therapist.
  13. Any ITEC professional who is employed or contracted to a salon, clinic or other organisation or individual shall not seek to attract, unless permitted by the proprietor,as her or his own clients any client of that organisation or individual who was treated by that salon, clinic, organisation or individual.
  14. Where an ITEC professional is formally charged with any criminal offence that in the opinion of the ITEC Professionals Council is such that the ITEC professional's reputation as a therapist is in jeopardy the Council may suspend that ITEC professional's registration pending the outcome of any proceedings.
  15. ITEC professionals may designate themselves as 'Mem.ITEC Professionals' and use the suffix 'Dip.(or Cert.)ITEC' plus the treatment, e.g 'Dip.ITEC Aroma' after their names.
  16. ITEC professionals must provide evidence that they are covered by indemnity insurance for both their treatments and the products that they may use and or sell to clients, sufficient for the levels of compensation likely to be required in the country in which they work. For UK and Ireland the level of cover should be at a minimum of £1,000,000.
